Final pictures

Here are the pictures from our last 2 days (finally).  Once we got home, it was confirmed that Kayna had the FLU, so we have all been a little busy.

Thank you for following along!  Enjoy.

Day 5 - Home, Sweet, Home

5 kids, 4 adults, a mountain of dry and wet clothes, boogie boards, computers, tablets, phones, cords, and just "stuff" and we all managed to eat breakfast, be packed up, and checked out this morning by 10:00 a.m. - Not bad!  After the car was loaded, we all walked down to the beach to snap a few family photo's.  Seth got to be a Hero and help push someone's car out that was stuck in the sand :)

We set Lola (our GPS) towards Sonny's - somewhere in Florida that we could arrive around lunchtime.  Since they closed all of the Sonny's near us, and we all love it, we take advantage of eating there when we travel South.  We stopped in Lake City, Florida around 1:00 p.m. for lunch.  Yum!

Back in the car, after about 30 minutes, Kayna was not feeling well.  She layed back and was resting though and we traveled on.  We decided to stop a couple of hours later at Dairy Queen in Forsyth for Blizzards, a Dipped Cone (Bop) and a shakemilk (Christian's version of a milkshake) for Christian and Kayna.  After the milkshake, she felt even worse.  I handed her an empty Pita chip bag in case she got really sick and needed it, and gave her wet wipes to wipe her face.

Somewhere around 7:05 we rolled into our driveway - YAY, home, and no sick incidences.  Kristi got out of her vehicle behind us in the drive way and when Kayna went to her, she felt her and said, "oh my goodness, she is burning up" .   As everyone else unloaded our truck, we brought Kayna in the house for some ibuprofen and lemonade. I took her temp and it was 102.3, no wonder she felt bad.   Have no clue what is wrong.  Guess it could be her sunburn, or it could be a little virus that is going around - I guess time will tell.

Other than that - we are all home, safe and sound and had a wonderful Spring Break trip! We loved the ocean (ok - all of us except Dennis and Kristi who does love it but said it was too cold) and the pools, the beach (especially Bubba) and the food.  The highlight of it all was just being together! Yes, we were all on top of each other and had to manage 1 bathroom for 4 days, but we made it - and loved every minute of it!

Stay tuned - we'll be back again for another trip in September.   Cruising to the Bahama's :)

This is no Cruise - This Nana is Tired. Day 4 (Wednesday)

Love being here with my family - would do it again in a heartbeat, but this is no relaxing cruise, and this Nana is tired. Fighting crashing waves two days in a row, in and out of pools, and getting a little sunburned, whew, but the memories we just made and the fun we are having is priceless and worth it all.

Today, was just fun in the sun, or ummm, maybe clouds - but it is warm and the ocean is a little calmer this morning.  Kelsi and I stayed in the ocean a long time today,  with frequent visits from Lauryn and Kayna and Seth. Savannah played in the ocean a little while, but would run to the pool anytime someone offered to take her. The girls are pretty RED from Tuesday, so today the rule is 70 Sunscreen and reapply every hour, and a shirt for Kelsi and I.

We have been watching the Ice cream truck on the beach for 2 days and never remembered to bring our money to the beach.  Today, I got it covered, and as soon as it pulled up - Ice Cream orders for anyone who wanted. Christian slid off the little bench at the pool and bumped his head, so his ice cream Sponge Bob   pop melted a little while we consoled him, but after that he was a happy little guy! Kelsi and Lauryn got yummy Waffle Cone Ice Creams from the truck (who knew they had that)?

At 3:30, we went downtown to pick up airbrush t-shirts for the kids that they had ordered on Tuesday night.  They love them, and all put them on immediately as we head for the Ponce De Leon LightHouse!  Dennis and I stayed on the ground with Bubba, while Seth and Kristi took everyone else up to the top of the Lighthouse! Seth was the last one down - a little shaky.... it's a LONG WAY to the top, a long scary way - but they said it was gorgeous (pictures to follow).

It's Pizza for the Wamsley crew tonight in the hotel (and Savannah) and Dennis and I ate at the Marina Restaurant in Ponce Inlet. Really good shrimp.

One last swim in all the pools and hurrah at the beach before back up for a lazy night in the room until bedtime. Which it is now -  still more pictures to come, and tomorrow - we pack for home.

We'll do this one more time tomorrow then close it out!

A "Look" at the week

Addendum to Tuesday!

Forgot to mention, at the Marine and Science Museum, we saw the ICU unit and large swim tanks for the injured animals.  Our beach turtle had been taken here, and we could see it from a far.

Day 3 (Tuesday) Turtles, Catfish, and Cousins

Lazy morning, eating breakfast as we got up (all but Dennis), just as we were ready.  The Daytona Beach Visitor's Bureau offered us free tickets to the Marine Museum as a travel agent perk, and I needed to go pick them up. I called to see if they were open, but never got an answer - so I would just wait a while, no hurry.  Kelsi spotted a large turtle stranded out on the beach, from our balcony, and so off went Seth, Kelsi, Lauryn, and Savannah to the beach. Several others were surrounding the turtle when they got down there, and the Beach Patrol came to the animal's rescue and loaded it up to take it to the local Marine life Hospital.

Back in the room, we were all ready now to leave and pick up the tickets for our Museum visit.  After I ran in the office to pick up the tickets, we made the 20 minute drive out to Ponce Inlet to the Marine and Science Museum. This place is so cool!  We were able to touch Stingrays in the touch pool, and it was feeding time, so Seth helped hand feed a stingray.  He said it was "strange", like a huge suction on your skin, but he we proud, " did it for Steve Irwin" he said. Lots of fish, turtles, large eels, and other sea animals surrounded us in tanks or aquariums, but a large glass window had Savannah's attention, over by the back wall, the marine life hospital and surgery center.  They had 3 or 4 medium sized turtles in large plastic containers awaiting surgery. We watched them hang IV bags and fill several syringes with medicine, preparing the area. Savannah was entranced and didn't want to leave.  It appeared the prep time was going to be very slow and long before any "action" really happened, so we finally convinced her to leave.  Pretty cool place!

Back to the Inn for a quick lunch and then head to the beach! Remember 2 paragraphs back when I said Dennis didn't eat breakfast?  There was a perfectly good cafe that serves breakfast in the lobby of our hotel, but, I don't even know why he didn't go. He said he was waiting on me to go pick up the tickets all morning, and thought he would just get something then - anyway, point being - it is 11:00 and he hasn't eaten yet.  Winn Dixie, for smoked chicken, here we come!  Afterwards, we played in the ocean, the pool, then indoor pool, the baby pool, back to the ocean, whew!

About 4:30 the cousins arrived, YAY - we've been waiting on them all afternoon.  Laura, Cliff, Ana Grace, Sam and Lydia drove over from Orlando to play with the kids (and see the rest of us). The ocean was cold and the waves pounding, but the kids didn't care - they were together and having fun. It was so good to visit with Laura and Cliff for a little while. A quick clean up by everyone (now it's 14 people and only 1 bathroom - yeah, we made it work) and we are off to dinner at Aunt Catfish! Crazy name, but Yummy Food!

Kelsi had Alligator, and Seth had an Alligator Sandwich. Kayna was brave and tried a bite of Kelsi's and both of them really liked it (Seth too).  They have a huge Salad bar (with cheese grits, stewed apples and baked beans).  I had sauteed shrimp and Dennis had shrimp and Talipia  The highlight of the meal?  A kid's playground and a cinnamon roll at the end of the meal, on the dinner plate. Oh my (wishing I had another one)... yeah, we will be back our next trip to Daytona. This one is a keeper!  Thank you Lynne Sweatt for recommending this one to us.

Tired people, ready for bed!
See you all on

Day 2 (Monday) - uh-oh or not?

Ok - I am a little behind on my posting, but I'll try and catch up some this morning, while everyone sleeps:
So - where are we? ok - Day 2 (Monday).

Everyone is up and eating breakfast in the breakfast area of the Holiday Inn Express by 8:05 a.m. (except Dennis, and he went to McDonalds for Sausage and Eggs - more on his diet than the sweet stuff at the hotel). Packed up, in the car and ready to roll towards Florida by about 8:45.

The 3 hour drive to Daytona seemed to take forever with numerous bathroom stops for little ones, but we were finally getting closer. Savannah said she didn't feel very good, but thought she would be ok.  As we drove through Jacksonville, we looked across the water and saw a Cruise Ship (maybe it the one we will be on in September) - that got us all excited :)

Finally, we arrived - The Hawaiian Inn.  Hasn't changed much in 38 years since Dennis and I stayed here on our Honeymoon. Love, Love, Love, how close it is to the beach - no walking over long bridges from the pool area to the sand - it's just a few shorts steps down to the beach! So, I got us all checked in and everyone else unloaded the cars. The luggage cart was FULL!!  There is only 1 elevator that goes up to the 5th floor, so at times the wait can be slow. Savannah was waiting with Lauryn and Kayna by the elevator while we got the HEAVY cart pushed over to the door.  All of a sudden she starts holding her stomach and doesn't look so good.  I had to find the restroom quick, fortunately Kristi had spotted it in the lobby and I ran Savannah over there quickly.  We barely made it inside and into a stall before she LOST HER BREAKFAST (sorry if I just grossed anyone out)!  It wasn't too bad though and it didn't smell Sick - mostly liquid... We cleaned her up but she still said she wasn't feeling good - She just wanted to go to bed. Uh-oh, please don't let this be a repeat of the Disney stomach virus trip we had about 5 years ago (that was a night-mare).

We got to our 2 room suite, on the 5th floor, and claimed a bed for Savannah and tucked her in. She was asleep in 2 minutes. The rest of us got settled in and Kristi's clan was getting ready to go to the beach/pool. We still needed lunch, but now Savannah was asleep.  We took turns going downstairs to the Tiki bar / grill to eat by the pool. Savannah still slept. We headed for the beach after lunch and Dennis stayed with Savannah. The current was strong - pulling us sideways (not out) but we were in the ocean, and having a blast, finally.   Christian's first reaction with sand this year was not love at first sight :)  He thought his feet were getting dirty, and he didn't like that at all, he kept trying to shake the sand off.  Once we convinced him it was supposed to be that way, he was fine and loved it.  He loved the ocean and played with Seth and Kris, me and his sissies - jumping the waves (and drinking a few of them too ).

About 4:00 we headed back to the room to clean up for dinner. Savannah was still asleep (good, she is resting). We sat out on the balcony for a while and then started taking shifts in our sleeps 10 suite, but only has 1 BATHROOM (and we have 6 girls - EEEK!).  While all of that commotion was happening, Christian was on the balcony and decided he needed to go pee-pee. So he was outside, right? like at home, right? NOooooooooo! too late, hope the people below us were not out on their balcony!  Couldn't help but laugh!!

Woke Savannah up, slowly, and she feels fine now! We are praying it was just car sickness.

Finally, on schedule, amazingly, we left for dinner. Yes, I have a schedule - even on vacation.  Those of you who follow my blogs should know that.  But there are 9 of us, so to get into dinner without a wait, reservations are a must. And who wants to wait when you have 5 kids and 2 hungry men in your crowd? Dennis picked dinner tonight, at Charlie Horse Restaurant. Crablegs and good seafood on the menu, looks good. So we are seated right away (YAY for reservations) and place our orders.  Kelsi and I split the 1 1/2 lb crab leg dinner with a few extra sides, and Dennis had a fisherman's platter. Kayna actually ordered a hamburger (and not chicken and fries - what a milestone).

As we waited for our food, Christian was thirsty and had drank a lot of his drink, when all of a sudden this huge 'burp' erupted from him, followed by a large "spewing" all over the table (again, hope I didn't gross you out)! The waitresses were very gracious and rushed to Kristi's aid to help us clean up the table around him. while she took him to the restroom to clean up. Uh-oh, is this really a stomach virus, or what? Please NOoooo! First Savannah, now Christian - same day! He settles back down, says he feels fine and so, ok - we can eat when our food arrives.  Yum, very good!! and Christian and Savannah ate well, with no problems. - ok, so far, so good!

After dinner, Savannah is still a little tired, and it is getting late, so we head back to the Hawaiian Inn, our home, but first a stop at Publix (lots of by one get one free's this week, or half off if you just get 1) for breakfast, lunch and snack foods.  We check out (after a buggy full of food (remember 5 kids throwing things they want into the buggies), and the cashier starts ringing Kristi's order up. - WHAT???  Florida doesn't have the same rules as Ga? really?  In Florida, you have to by 2 of the item that is on a BOGO special - you don't get 1/2 off if you just buy 1 of the item. Hmm, ok - so Kristi, takes stuff back through the store, and RESHOPS to make it work for family and budget.

Back at the Hawaiian Inn, later, we unloaded groceries, and finished the evening with family board games (Apples to Apples). Then, bed - everyone was ready!

Night - the beach and pool awaits in the morning :)

** Will post pictures later - stay tuned

Day 1 (Sunday) in Savannah, Ga.

Well we are in for the night, staying at the Holiday Inn Express off of I-95 S in Richmond Hill (just outside of Savannah). HI knows how to treat Travel Agents, so I always enjoy staying with this chain for short stays.

We left Austell about 12:45 and rolled into the hotel about 5:00 p.m.  (after I took us to the wrong one first - ok, well, technically it was Lola (our GPS), so yeah, I'm blaming Lola on that one).  Got settled in and then left for dinner at Uncle Bubba's Oyster House and Seafood at 6:00 p.m.

Remember McKayla Maroney's not so impressed face?

Well that is how Dennis and I (and maybe Seth) felt after eating at Uncle Bubba's.   I thought being kin to Paula Dean, that good cooking, no let me re-phrase that, excellent food, would be the theme of the evening, but mine and Seth's crab cakes were just mediocre, not bad, not great.  Dennis had a seafood platter and his oysters were good, but nothing else was outstanding. Kelsi and Kristi split a seafood platter and liked it, but not much quantity... Lauryn liked her kids shrimp basket and the other kids had the standard, chicken and fries:  Overall.... Not Impressed.  Probably wouldn't go back.

On a brighter note - we did see the cutest little hat in the restaurant store for our Bubba - it had "little Bubba" stitched on the front.  I may have to get him one for Christmas.

Back in the hotel, everyone is ready for bed and tomorrow - we are OCEAN BOUND - YAY!!  everyone is so excited (well, except Bop, and he's just excited he is with us)!
Talk to ya'll tomorrow

Back to the Beach (Daytona Style) Vacation Eve

It is Vacation Eve, 2013.  All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go.  You know the excitement felt on Christmas Eve, when you check off all your lists, make sure everything is wrapped, get the kids in bed early and then your heart just pounds with so much excitement you can barely sleep?  Well, that is me on vacation eve.

But first things first, tomorrow morning brings a new day of Worship at New Harvest Baptist church, and I am looking forward to worshiping with my church family and listening to my favorite pastor!  Then, it's lunch at our house (chicken di van, in the frig, ready to heat up), pack the truck, and we're off!

We will be spending the week in Daytona Beach, Florida, by way of Savannah, Ga, our first stop on Sunday Night.  We have dinner reservations at Uncle Bubba's (Paula Dean's brother). Ready for some SEAFOOD. I wonder if Uncle Bubba is ready for little Bubba?  Oh yeah, did I mention who is going ?  It's
Nana, Bop, Kristi, Seth, Kelsi, Lauryn, Kayna, Christian (little Bubba) and Savannah.  We have to get on a different vacation schedule next year, so Lynne and Matt can join us (missing them)!

ok - so I have to finish packing - see you all tomorrow!
